“I’ve noticed Robby is always encouraging teammates and being an example of what a hard worker looks like.”
—Cre Gardner, CL Sports Director

At Youth for Christ Metro Pittsburgh, we believe in building meaningful relationships with young people to introduce them to Jesus. Through CL Sports, we meet students right where they are: on baseball fields, in gyms, and at local tournaments. We walk with them through the most pivotal years of their lives.

One of those students is Robby, a 6th grader from Canon Mac. He’s now in his third year with Armory Baseball, part of the growing movement of CL Sports. His love for the game is clear, but so is something deeper. Robby is stepping into leadership.

“Robby always encourages his teammates,” says Cre Gardner. “He’s become an example of what a hard worker looks like.” That kind of consistency, showing up, giving your all, and lifting others up, is exactly what CL Sports hopes to foster.

This summer, Robby took a big next step. He attended Summer Escape, YFCMP’s middle school retreat packed with games, worship, and community. For Robby, it was more than just a fun weekend. He had the chance to connect with students from other schools and strengthen friendships that matter.

Cre noticed something shift.

“Robby is very receptive to talking about Christ now,” he says. “And with him now old enough to attend Campus Life, we expect to see even more growth.”

That’s exactly the heartbeat behind CL Sports. It is designed to be an open door into deeper community and discipleship. Armory Baseball may have sparked the connection, but now Robby has a place to belong, to grow in faith, and to be known.

As fall begins, Robby steps into another season of baseball. But this time, he does it with new purpose. We believe God is already at work in his story, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
