At Youth for Christ Metro Pittsburgh, we believe every young person deserves to uncover God’s story of hope in their lives. We reach youth everywhere, building meaningful relationships at pivotal moments, introducing them to the life-changing love of Jesus.

Meet Alex, a freshman at Canon Mac High School. He grew up attending church but felt distant from faith. “When I was little, we went every Sunday, but I didn’t care much about being there,” Alex shared. His words set the stage for a journey from loss to leadership.

Alex’s childhood wasn’t easy. Cancer took several family members, leaving him wrestling with grief and brokenness. “Losing them tore my family apart,” he said. “I started to understand death and its effects on people.”

Middle school brought a turning point. Friends invited Alex to Campus Life, and he encountered a different kind of community—a place where he felt seen, heard, and valued. It was there that Joey, a leader, asked him a question that changed everything: “Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus?”

Alex answered honestly: “No. How do I start one?” That night, Joey and JR, the Canon Mac Ministry Supervisor, prayed with him. Alex started his journey with Jesus. He joined a weekly Bible study, learning more about God’s love and purpose for his life. “Jeremiah 29:11 helped me understand that, even with the loss in my life, God has good plans for me,” Alex explained.

Today, Alex gives back as a middle school Campus Life leader, guiding students just as he was guided. “I want to help kids who were in my position,” he said. “I hope they can have the same outcome I had.”

Alex’s story reminds us why YFC exists—to walk with young people in pivotal moments and help them uncover God’s story of hope.
